This demanding sailing voyage takes you across the North Sea, along the English and Scottish east coasts, to Inverness in Scotland. Covering approximately 550 nautical miles, it’s a significant challenge for sailors. We have 11 days to complete the voyage, with time to explore interesting destinations along the way. However, the route is flexible and dependent on weather conditions. In adverse weather, this could turn into a non-stop journey, requiring flexibility and adaptability.

During this voyage, you’ll be part of the crew, fully immersed in the watch system. You’ll actively participate in sailing, steering, lookout duties, and navigation. The crew will guide you every step of the way. Along the route, we’ll explore some of the best spots along the east coast of England and Scotland, including Whitby and Lindisfarne.

    Day-to-Day Programme

    Day 1:
    On the evening of Saturday, April 11, we’ll start with an onboard introduction in Medemblik. You’ll receive a briefing about the ship, safety procedures, and the voyage. After a restful night, we’ll set sail for the North Sea the following morning.

    Days 2-3:
    We’ll sail towards Whitby, a charming harbour town famous for its connection to Dracula and explorer James Cook. After covering approximately 250 nautical miles, we expect to arrive on the third day.

    Day 4:
    A rest day in Whitby to explore the town. Visit Whitby Abbey, the James Cook Museum, or relax in one of the town’s cosy cafés. Experience the unique atmosphere of this historic port.

    Days 5-6:
    On Day 5, we’ll sail to Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne, renowned for its medieval monastery and abundant seal population. We’ll anchor in a sheltered bay, giving you the chance to explore the island by dinghy.

    Days 7-9:
    We’ll head towards Inverness, with a possible stop in Stonehaven or the Moray Firth, depending on weather conditions. This leg covers approximately 175 nautical miles and may be adjusted based on the circumstances.

    Day 10:
    Upon arrival in Inverness, there will be time to explore the city. Visit highlights such as Inverness Castle, Culloden Battlefield, or a nearby whisky distillery. We’ll conclude the voyage with a group dinner and a fun evening at the local pub, Hootananny.

    Day 11:
    On Tuesday, April 21, we’ll say our goodbyes after breakfast. After 11 days of adventure, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories and new sailing experiences.

    Onboard Cooking Adventures

    Food plays an essential role in this voyage! We’ll stock up in advance to ensure a nourishing and enjoyable culinary experience. As part of the crew, you’ll also contribute to meal preparation. Each person will prepare one meal during the trip, using their own menu and shopping list submitted beforehand.

    Cooking at sea can be challenging but also rewarding. It’s a great way to bond with your fellow crew members.

    One evening during the voyage, we’ll dine ashore at your own expense, with the exact day determined by the schedule and weather conditions.

    Please note: For safety reasons, no alcohol will be served before or during sailing.

        Getting to the Ship

        You are responsible for arranging your travel to and from the ship.

        Travel Advice: Schiphol to Medemblik

        1. By Train and Bus:
          • Take a train from Schiphol Airport to Hoorn (direct trains are available, or you may need to transfer at Amsterdam Sloterdijk).
          • From Hoorn, take bus 314 towards Den Oever and get off at Medemblik.
          • The total travel time is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
