TRAVEL PLANNING
Embarkation: Sunday 21.07.24 at 2 pm in Oban
Disembarkation: Tuesday 30.07.24 at 10 am in Oban
DAY 1 – OBAN
On the 1st day, we welcome you on board in Oban at 2 pm. Steady is waiting for you in the marina on the North Pier, just 300m from the train station. While enjoining coffee/tea with cake, we get to know each other and the ship. We will leave Oban that same afternoon and sail to a beautiful anchorage in the Sound of Mull where we will also spend the night. After dinner together you will be further briefed on the upcoming voyage.
DAY 2 – CANNA
We sail to Canna, the most remote island of the Small Isles. You cannot see Canna from the mainland because it is hidden behind the high mountains of Rum. Canna is an island of great beauty and variety, with green meadows and forests, wild heathlands and dramatic cliffs on the north and west sides. There are two fascinating churches, an ancient cross, an inaccessible ‘castle’ atop a large rock and Canna House – the former home of folklorist and Gaelic scholar John Lorne Campbell.
This is a great island to explore on foot. The walk along the coastline offers fantastic views of the Outer Hebrides, Rum and the Cuillin of Skye, and there are a few fine sandy beaches. The neighbouring island of Sanday is connected by a bridge and has some impressive cliffs, with two large rocky cliffs providing an ideal base for a colony of puffins.
DAY 3 – SKYE, LOCH HARPORT
Taking a northerly course, we sail along Skye’s impressive coastline towards Loch Harport. Overlooking Talisker’s famous whisky distillery, we anchor here.
DAY 4 – SOUTH UIST
From Skye we cross over to the Outer Hebrides. We head to a beautiful anchorage in Loch Skipport off the island South Uist. The east side of the island is mountainous and here we can go ashore by dinghy to explore the shore.
DAY 5 – ERISKAY
Eriskay is a small island of the Outer Hebrides, south of South Uist. We anchor here in a beautiful sheltered natural bay. From the anchorage it is not too far to walk to the west coast of the island. Here you overlook beautiful white sandy beaches and the Atlantic Ocean.
DAY 6 – BARRA
Our favourite spot on Barra is Vatersay bay. Lots of chances you will see bottlenose dolphins here! Overlooking beautiful white sandy beaches, it’s like being on a tropical island.
DAY 7 – COLL
From Barra to Coll is a full day at sea. This is a stretch where lots of wildlife is spotted though so keep binoculars and camera handy!
DAY 8 – TOBERMORY
We set sail to the colourful town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. From Tobermory there are some lovely short hiking trails. There are also lovely pubs and shops to enjoy.
DAY 9 – KERRERA
In the morning we sail to green paradise Kerrera, followed by a pleasent hike on the island. Compared to all the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist centre of Oban, Kerrera is very quiet, rural and offers stunning views of the surrounding coastal areas. Cars are banned on the island except for locals making it a walker’s paradise. In the evening, we enjoy the Captains dinner together.
DAY 10 – OBAN
After breakfast, we raise anchor and sail back to Oban in an hour. After an active 10 days enjoying the beautiful green and watery surroundings, we say goodbye to each other at 10 am
NB: The above schedule depends on weather, wind and tide, if necessary we deviate from it.
