Besides being sailors, skippers and owners, Jan-Willem and Marielle are also keen walkers. The walking aspect of this holiday is suited for intermediate level and routes will be planned accordingly. Our route will be entirely dependent on the weather and the wind so there is no fixed itinerary.
The port town of Oban is a great place to board sailing yacht Steady where her skippers and owners, Jan-Willem and Mariëlle.
Our first stop will likely be the island of Lismore. The name Lismore comes from Gaelic – Lios Mor – and means the great garden. It is certainly an apt description of this beautiful green island that stretches into the mouth of Loch Linnhe and guards the entrance to the Sound of Mull. Lismore is not very high but has a rolling and rocky landscape.
The views across the water to the mountains of Argyll, Ardnamurchan and Mull are stunning. The island of Mull and her surrounding smaller islands are perfectly sheltered for great sailing and provide some great walking routes ashore.
Perhaps sail Craignure Bay where we can anchor and take a walk ashore through a woodland with impressive views of Torosay Castle. Once back onboard, we will sail to the colourful harbour town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Spend the afternoon exploring the walking trails ashore, sweet local pubs and artisan shops. In the morning we sail to the green paradise island of Kerrera, followed by a hike on the island. Compared to all the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist centre of Oban, Kerrera is very quiet and offers stunning views of the surrounding coastal areas. Cars are banned on the island except for a few locals, making it a walker’s paradise. In the evening, we enjoy the Captain’s dinner together before disembarking in Oban in the morning.
CATERING ON BOARD
All meals on board are included in the price, including accompanying drinks (tea, coffee, milk, orange juice, etc.) A glass of wine will be served with dinner. No alcohol is served during sailing for safety reasons. Other drinks are not included and will be charged at the end of the trip.
Our meals are healthy and varied but above all tasty! We can also accommodate dietary requirements such as gluten-free – lactose-free – veg – low-carb.
