A Journey Through Scottish History
Opened in 1822, the Caledonian Canal is one of Scotland’s most remarkable waterways. Linking Inverness with the west coast, it offers a sheltered passage through a chain of natural lochs — including Loch Ness — surrounded by breathtaking Highland scenery. Each lock and bridge tells a story, and every bend reveals a new view.
Day-to-Day Programme – Caledonian Canal Voyage
Day 1 – Welcome Aboard in Oban
Your Highland adventure begins in Oban at 13:30. Step aboard Steady, settle in, and meet your fellow adventurers. We set sail through Loch Linnhe, surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery, and anchor in a peaceful loch for our first night.
Day 2 – Hoist the Sails
After a relaxed morning ashore, we continue north through Loch Linnhe. With the wind in the sails and steep green hills around us, we make our way towards the entrance of the Caledonian Canal. Take the helm, help with the sails, or simply enjoy the views.
Day 3 – Enter the Caledonian Canal
Today we enter the legendary Caledonian Canal, with Ben Nevis towering in the distance. The scenery shifts from open sea to tranquil lochs and forested hills. In the afternoon, we pass through Neptune’s Staircase — eight impressive locks and one of the highlights of the voyage.
Day 4 – Through the Heart of the Highlands
We sail deeper into the Highlands, surrounded by mirror-like lochs, ancient forests, and rugged peaks. We end the day in Gairlochy, at the edge of the famous Loch Ness.
Day 5 – Across Loch Ness
Cross the legendary Loch Ness, taking in views of castle ruins and wooded shores. We continue to Fort Augustus, where there is time to explore the village, enjoy the canal-side atmosphere, and keep an eye out for Nessie.
