SAILING AND ISLAND HOPPING IN THE HEBRIDES
ULLAPOOL – ULLAPOOL

29 JUNI – 6 JULI 2021 | 8 DAYS

JOURNEY FEE €800, – + BOARDING CASH £350, – PER PERSON

Sail with Steady at the west coast of Scotland and discover one of the most stunning sailing areas in the world.

During a sailing holiday in the Hebrides, in which we don’t follow a specific route, there is a lot to discover. From cosy harbour places to desolate anchor spots, magnificent long beaches, and rich wildlife. All in all, there is plenty to see or do.

When we sail to the west from Oban through the Sound of Mull, you can change course after Ardnamurchan Point towards the north or the south, or you can continue west to Barra and further.
With a Southward course we follow the majestic coastline of Mull by Treschnish and onwards to Staffa.
A visit to the cave of Findal is a must, but the landing is highly dependent on the swell.

Further down we find the holy island Iona, in which the resonance of Columbia proliferates. When we continue, we pass Torrans Rocks and in the south, there is Colonsay. Here we can moor along the pier for the night and when you go onto the island you can taste some amazing ales from the smallest Island brewery in the world.

The northward route brings Steady to the more desolate Hebrides Islands. Rum, by far the biggest island, has a cluster of formidable volcanic peaks. Askival (Ash mountain), the highest peak dominates the landscape, the name comes from the Vikings that once settled here.

If we are lucky and have calm weather, we take you to one of the most amazing anchor spots in the world. Nestled at the bottom of Skye’s Cuillins lays Loch Scavaig, an estuary connects the Loch with the water of Loch Corusk, which beautifully blows in. If you follow the walking path here, it feels like you’ve entered inner earth.
Eigg, which only measures 5 by 3 miles, is by far the most alive, densely populated, and welcoming island of the small isles. From the An Sgurr, 393 meters, you have a stunning sight of Muck and Rhum. Canna is in a lot of aspects the most beautiful of the small isles, with its high basalt-cliffs which house a colony of puffins. Spend some time on the cliff edge while they float by you only a couple of centimetres before they shoot away to catch more eel.

During the anchoring by night, you can surrender yourself to the calmness of the island, knowing there’s little more to do than hiking, bird watching and enjoying the landscape and the hospitality of the island’s population.
Wherever Steady takes you will see that every island offers some good short hikes of about an hour before you leave and head for a new anchor-spot. Generally, the islands don’t have a marina, so we are moored to our own anchor and use the dinghy to visit the island. This journey is highly recommended to those who like hiking, wildlife, and nature’s beauty!

During our travels, our destinations are determined according to the nautical weather report. This way you’ll have the optimal relaxed holiday, and you will see plenty of the beautiful nature.
